Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.) was founded in 1932 to honor the sacrifice and service of Legionnaires. This subset of The American Legion organization is comprised of male members whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and are eligible for membership in The American Legion.
Members in S.A.L. assist Legionnaires with hosting and organizing Legion Family programs and events, participate in meetings, and uphold and promote the ideals of the overall organization. They accomplish these goals by helping to establish networks within their local communities and spreading awareness about The American Legion. They support educational endeavors by sharing information on flag education, respect for the military, and veteran history within schools and other local groups.
All male descendants, adopted sons, and stepsons of members of The American Legion or male descendants of veterans who were eligible for membership within The American Legion based on prior military service are eligible for membership in the Sons of The American Legion.
